For those of you who don't know what Godzilla is, picture a huge reptilian beast that pretty much destroys everything in its path and originates in Japan. Fun fact, the name Godzilla is derived from the two Japanese words "goira" or Gorilla and "kujira" or whale. Another nickname that Godzilla has earned is King of the Monsters, a name that is perfect for a certain Nissan car, which was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, this week. Enter the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo and the unique Juke Nismo RS.
With 600 curb horsepower, the Nissan GT-R Nismo is more like Super Godzilla. Yes there is one. The curtains for both cars were unveiled by Fred Diaz, Divisional Vice President Nissan Sales and Marketing Parts and Service Nissan North America, and Nissan's director of excitement and Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt.
"Earlier today in Tokyo at the motor show, Nissan celebrated its 80th anniversary. An amazing 80 years with the company. We did so not with the misty-eyed look towards the past, but rather unveiling the new GT-R Nismo - the absolute fastest factory GT-R ever created," says Fred Diaz. "The new GT-R Nismo will join the GT-R lineup here in the states in mid-2014. This is truly the work of Godzilla on steroids."
"I should've waited. We'll be united soon," says Usain Bolt to the GT-R Nismo. We asked Bolt what his favorite aspect of the new Nissan GT-R Nismo is and he said, "I love everything about it! But really I love the new carbon fiber additions."
The Nissan Juke may not be everybody's cup of tea, but at the Nismo Performance Academy the mini SUV with Nismo-specs proved to be a fun track car. Now new to its performance lineup is the Juke Nismo RS. The engine power has been bumped to 215hp from its original 197hp and an improved 207 lb-ft of torque. Just like the Nissan GT-R Nismo the Juke Nismo RS will be getting a specially tuned suspension and exclusive Recaro seats. It goes on sale this December.
"Our strategy with Nismo is to appeal not only to the die hard and race-hard enthusiasts, but also to the people who might like the imagery of high performance lifestyles," says Diaz. "But what's really important is that it's still very affordable. Just like all of our Nismos that have come before."
