Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
Lighter And Two-Tenths Quicker
It's lighter and it has more power than a standard Gallardo. What's not to like? This Superleggera model, also launched at Geneva '07, improves the standard car's power-to-weight ratio with an additional 10 hp and a reduction in weight-Europeans will see 220 pounds lopped off, but American version loses only 154. It's all done with better engine breathing and a modified ECU (resulting in 530 bhp from the 5.0-liter V10) on one hand, and lashings of carbon fiber on the other (rear diffuser and underbody covering, rear-view mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel's covering, for example). Some glass panels are also replaced with polycarbonate. In the zero-to-62-mph sprint, the Superleggera has an advantage of two-tenths of a second. It also features E-gear, Lamborghini's robotized transmission, as standard, and privileged bottoms will be held in place by one-piece carbon fiber sport seats.
