The turbocharged Toyota A90 Supra has been out on the streets for over a year now. The 2021 model has even been updated with a more powerful 382hp 3.0L engine as well as a 255hp four-cylinder option. It's a blast to drive in case you haven't already driven one, but despite this, it still receives its fair share of complaints about the use of a BMW inline-six, not to mention it only comes with an eight-speed automatic. While the haters have remained busy, there have been a healthy number of believers that welcomed the new GR Supra to the car scene. There's been no shortage of stunning builds surfacing since last year's SEMA Show, from wild widebodies to mild examples with suspension, wheels and a lip kit.
Today's story is one that follows the latter - a Nocturnal Black Supra with a mod list that you can count on one hand; however, its overall presence on the road is easily ten out of ten! The owner, Mark Reyes comes from the Auto Tuned camp - a SoCal-based shop we've had the pleasure of working with on a regular basis for the last several years (you might recollect the Toyota Corolla Hatchback and Toyota C-HR they helped us build in recent times). This particular Supra is their most recent project, which debuted at the 2019 SEMA Show and still looks just as sick today as it did a year ago, without being super played out yet. However, its formula is foolproof.
Step 1: Volk Racing TE37SL Wheels
Wheels make the car and if you're a reader of Super Street, the overwhelming favorite is the Volk Racing TE37. Before the A90 Supra launched, we even rendered a white A90 Supra with 20-inch TE37SL wheels and knew it would be a number one hit. Mark's car rolls on a set of staggered 19x9.5" front, 19x10.5" rear TE37SLs which fit as perfect as we could've ever imagined on the new Supra.
Step 2: RS-R Coilovers & EDC Canceller
After sourcing the right shoes comes suspension, and Auto Tuned chose to install RS-R's Sports*I coilovers which feature monotube shocks, urethane bushings, and 8kg/mm front and 14kg/mm rear spring rates. The height adjustability for these coils is quite flexible with 3-inches of range up front and 2.2-inches in the rear. To retain the use of traction control and disable any error messages associated with aftermarket suspension, RS-R's EDC canceller was also installed.
Step 3: Auto Tuned x Fly1Motorsports Carbon Fiber Lip & Diffuser
The last part of the equation is the front lip, rear diffuser and rear spats which are collaborative pieces between Auto Tuned and Fly1Motorsports. The design is similar to the digital rendering of the stage 2 carbon fiber lip kit we originally designed with the help of Jon Sibal. A really subtle package that toughens up the Supra and makes the car feel more like a tastefully tuned street car without going overboard. Auto Tuned offers its S1 lip kit in carbon fiber, Kevlar and forged carbon.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Last but not least, a Remark exhaust wakes up the sound of the Supra while some carbon fiber louvers from Zakustech were added to reduce glare and heat within the cabin. And that's all she wrote, folks
Like I said, it's not rocket science. The GR Supra is already a good lookin' car in stock form and with only a handful of well-selected and designed aftermarket parts, you'll be on a whole 'nother level. Just continue to beware of all the "nice BMW" comments.
