S2KI Meet Details:
- Hosted by DTM Autobody
- Luigi Arroyo's J's Racing Widebody Honda S2000 attends
- Held at Boba Bear, a tea/hookah bar
We don't ask for much. A great number of tuners want the same thing: A lightweight chassis with a rear-wheel drive configuration. You can imagine the chaotic exhilaration back in the day when Honda announced a successor to its original S600 roadster with the S2000. The Formula One style digital dashboard, six-speed transmission, F20 or F22 motor were all ingredients to celebrate Honda's racing pedigree.
January typically isn't filled with car shows every weekend like in the summer time (even on the sunny west coast). So what's the next best thing? Find a local car meet to go to. But not those ratchet ones.
Leland Chen from DTM Autobody hosted his first S2KI meet at Boba Bear located in El Monte, California that brought out more than Honda S2000 owners. Boba Bear is a really neat establishment that combines a boba/tea shop and hookah bar.
"At the peak of the meet there were around 30 S2000s. I chose Boba Bear in El Monte because of the good clean parking lot and I wanted to support my friend's business choices," says Leland. "My favorite car there was Karl Johnston's Maritime Blue S2000."
One of my favorite cars was good friend Luigi Arroyo's J's Racing wide body 2008 Honda S2000. It's not the most powerful S2000 around, but the J's Racing kit makes it look like a track monster. The straight pipes are music to my ears.
"The meet was a great turn out; it was nice to finally see the S2000 community meet again. I really hope to see more meets like this come up," says Luigi. "My favorite builds were the full ASM S2000 and Karl Johnston's S2000. The best part of owning an S2000 is the sleek body styling that it offers and the great handling of the car overall. It's a real eye catcher even when it's bone stock, yet there are so many directions to make it grow and evolve."
Leland plans on hosting another meet in February and if there's a continuous amount of good quality S2000s eventually it'll turn into a monthly event.
