Our weeklong stint in Sin City had us drooling over vehicle debuts, winded from the non-stop walking, and excited about some of the new products that showed up at SEMA 2018. Expected to hit the market early next year if they haven't already, here's a small sampling of some of the goods unveiled at the biggest aftermarket industry show on earth.
Seibon Carbon - seiboncarbon.com
Seibon's carbon fiber-laden booth featured what seemed to be a city block's worth of vehicles sporting some of their latest woven wonders. For the Honda crowd, this new NSX was fitted with a dry carbon hood and trunk lid that featured red strands woven into the design. Also on the exterior were Seibon's TA-style side skirts, front lip, and an OEM-style rear diffuser. A slightly modded engine was covered by a carbon fiber panel, as well.
Lowered using Motonsport 3-way coilovers fitted with Eibach springs, the NSX sits on 21x12-inch rear and 20x9 front Advan GT in gloss black.
Along with the NSX was an FK8 with a laundry list of Seibon goods, including their CV-style hood, grill, and front fenders, TA style front lip, red carbon fiber mirror covers, side skirts, and extensions, front and rear doors, and even a dry carbon roof replacement. The list goes on and on, and suffice to say Seibon's engineers picked the latest Type R apart in order to offer all types of lightweight upgrades.
2018 Subie owners have plenty of Seibon options as this example flexed their CW-style carbon fiber hood along with their carbon front grill, fog light surrounds, MB3 style front lip, fender caps, side skirts, and rear spoiler that sits atop the carbon trunk lid.
This STi's IAG Performance closed-deck heart is fitted with an FCS Race custom twin scroll setup using a Borg Warner Airwerks S372 SX-E snail, dual TiAL MV-S wastegates, 50mm blow-off valve, and ID2000s kept quiet under the hood throughout the week.
GReddy - greddy.com
Earlier this year we worked with GReddy to boost our Project S2000 in a short, one-week build-up.
At that time, the tuning firm was finalizing the reintroduction of their turbo kit that features a new, stronger manifold and an updated GTX2866R Gen II Garrett turbo. The kit should be available for purchase soon, and GReddy says it will carry the coveted 50-stage legal status to keep you on the right side of the law. The kit includes everything you need to bolt on and start boosting.
The GReddy Performance Products DD-R exhaust system, shown here in 10th gen. Si configuration, features a dual outlet set up with replaceable exhaust tips, minimal bends for excellent flow, and an aggressive, deep tone. We're hoping to test this system out on our recently acquired 2018 Si sedan in early 2019.
If shaving weight is your thing, then the RS Ti system, constructed out of titanium, might be your ideal exhaust. It features a straight-through design with off-set tip and tapered end caps along with efficient sound suppression.
Eibach Springs - eibach.com
Eibach's booth was buzzing with the debut of Ryan Hoegner's 911 barn find but we were able to sneak in to grab a few pics of their product display.
Their Special Edition PRO-PLUS kit, in this case intended for the NSX, features a slick matte black finish, which is in stark contrast to their more recognizable red product coating. This finish will only be offered for select limited applications and it looks amazing in person.
L.A. Sleeve - lasleeve.com
We caught a glimpse of the L.A. Sleeve booth from across the crowded convention center hall thanks to the massive hunk of billet aluminum sitting on their desk. Bullet Race Engineering of Australia relies on the family operation at L.A. Sleeve to outfit their billet blocks with sleeves for extreme power applications.
This particular block is an RB30 but the group also offers 4G63, RB26 and SR20 versions and just like this one, L.A. Sleeve works their magic on each one.
L.A. Sleeve has been around for a while—founded in 1945, the family-run operation designs and supplies sleeves for every possible application that you can imagine, from tiny 2-stroke engines to monster diesel mega-trucks, the Metchkoff family does it all. We got a behind-the-scenes tour of their operation earlier this year.
Hondata - hondata.com
The Honda ECU gurus at Hondata have been busy with the release of their 10th generation FlashPro systems that include the highly anticipated FK8 version. Since then, they've also added a 50-state legal FlashPro system that we used on a 10th gen. Civic Sport.
For those looking for a "no lift shift," Hondata released their Strain Gauge, which is gearshift mounted and features an amplifier that sends a signal to the ECU to cut the engine when the gear lever is moved. The result is a quicker shift that doesn't require lifting from the throttle with dog box set ups. There are others on the market but Hondata has priced their version extremely competitively and we expect this will be another hit for the group.
If you're in search of traction control, Hondata has your covered. Compatible with their wildly popular KPro, FlashPro and S300 systems, the adjustable traction system might be exactly what you need to put the power down properly.
SSR Wheels - ssr-wheels.com
SSR is back with what we're calling an instant classic. Their latest design, the Formula AERO MESH, combines modern day technology with a classic, race-inspire face and iconic SSR step lip. So smitten with the wheel's debut, I ordered a set for myself just a few days after they appeared on SSR Wheels' Instagram page. Standard colors include silver with a red or blue trim ring but SSR offers various color disc, lip and hardware options to let you customize your set. They come in 16-19in versions and are available to order right now.
Sort of an ode to the long-running Type C, this new Reiner Type 6 wheel is new from the SSR camp. Available in titan silver and this dark gunmetal hue, the 2-piece design will be available in 18 to 20-inch applications. In addition, the Reiner Type 12 features a 12-spoke design and is offered in the same sizes and color options as its Type 6 brethren.
Also in the works are these nicely crafted carbon fiber center caps for various SSR wheels. Though they're not finalized just yet, expect these to be available in early '19.
Revel USA - revel-usa.com
Revel announced the debut of their G Dry line-up at SEMA '18. The premium dry carbon kits, shown here for the FK8 Civic Type R, are a direct overlay with a precision fit using real carbon fiber, not a faux treatment.
Revel also released their VLS II analog gauges that allow you to change illumination colors, feature a sun shield hood and are available in a variety of monitoring options, including boost, oil temp and water temp.We used Revel's intercooler temp gauge system earlier this year and were impressed by the accuracy and user-friendly layout.
