When I was younger I used to think of the BMW M3 almost as if it were some type of mythical being. It was just one of those cars that seemed to be good at everything. I could be having a conversation about braking, acceleration, or handling, and the M3 was always mentioned as the best at that particular aspect. It was as if Merlin, Gandalf, Yoda, and Dumbledore got together and used their combined sorcery to create the M3.
And before you discount magic as a possibility, take note of the fact that the M3 is the only car ever made to win more motorsport titles than the Porsche 911! If it wasn't magic that forged the M3, it was aliens – that's the only way such a thing could be possible. If you haven't figured it out already, I'm pretty impressed with the M3. Having said that, it should be no surprise that I was pretty excited to stroll the vendor village and adjacent areas of BimmerFest West 2016 and pick out some of my favorite M3 at the show for you guys. Lets get started!
ESM WHEELS E46 M3
This E46 was one of the wildest I came across at BimmerFest. It has a custom widebody from DTM fiberworks, which goes nicely with the CSL-style carbon fiber trunk in the back. Normally, I'd find gold plated wheels gawdy but here the gold ESM wheels give a nice contrast to the white body panels and exposed carbon.
The Rolloface E92 is sporting their GT3 widebody package, which has lines that I haven't seen before when it comes to wide fenders – and I've seen a lot of wide fenders on BMW. From far away it might look like a street/show car, but getting up close reveals this car is all business.
PANDEM E36 M3
You might be sick of hearing about Rocket Bunny/Liberty Walk/Pandem but it’s hard to deny that on the right car their stuff just looks good! This E36 looks as tough as they come with Pandem's treatment on it. And the Rotiform deep dish CCV wheels adds so much muscle to its look. It probably lifts, bro.
BAVSOUND F80 M3 SEDAN
This was one of the few F80 M3 I spotted at the show but it stopped me in my tracks due to its nice balance of subtlety and aggressiveness. It seems practically stock at first glance but looking deeper reveals a hard-hitting stance, a fresh set of HRE 501M wheels, and strategically placed carbon fiber, especially in the front. Nicely done!
1990 E30 M3 COUPE
My favorite M3 at BimmerFest West 2016 isn't even modified. In fact it’s completely stock, which is why I love it so much. What you see here is a near mint condition, show room stock first-gen. M3 coupe. Whoever owns this car took extremely great care of it. The paint is near perfect, it still has the famous checkered factory graphics package, and it even has the original window sticker! BMW fanatics would kill for an E30 M3 in this condition!
