An invitation to Las Vegas is a hard thing to pass up. Especially if it's laced with the promise of seeing some of the best modified VW / Audis on the West Coast. Wuste (pronounced 'woo-stah') European Car Festival 2013, Lucky #7 was just that invitation - which we happily accepted.
The Palace Station Hotel and Casino graciously offered their multi-level parking garage to the swarms of Wuste attendees. Who occupied nearly every parking space from the 4th floor to the rooftop. Music echoed throughout the concrete corridors while each club, owner and fan became reacquainted with long lost Wuste show friends or just made new ones while walking around and sharing a brew. This was our small slice of West Coast Euro show scene that most plan there years around. With the Las Vegas Strip as the backdrop you couldn't ask for anything more. Except for the triple digit heat to take a break. It truly was ungodly hot and it didn't matter if it was Midnight or Noon. Utilizing a new venue for Wuste 7, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, an estimated 1300 cars and 3500 people filled every conceivable in the pit garages and parking grounds around the Neon Garage infield. The unbearable heat couldn't keep away fans even if it was 105?. The Neon Garage courtyard was filled wall to wall with the best full custom cars of the entire show field. Even the garages surrounding the Neon Garage were occupied with fine examples, including our friends at Janky Garage with Grant Kellers MkIV R32 and Jeff Lockhart's Jetta (featured in the upcoming european car 09/13 issue).
We met Joshua Zetnia, who drove in from the Los Angeles Valley to unveil his latest work. A 2000 GTI VR6 complete with a turbo and full engine build. If that weren't enough, the car received a new coat of Rave Green metallic paint to highlight the cars extensive bodywork - like the R32 bumpers and straight-razor shave. Inside, nearly every surface was covered in peanut butter leather with a white top-stitch.
The Audi A3 was a wild success amongst Americans looking to jump into the German luxury brand without breaking their bank accounts. Since then the used car's value has finally reached an acceptable price point for VW tuners to jump in and modify them to our expected standards. Jason Maglinao turned his 2007 A3 to a new level when he decided to outfit it with an S-Line aero kit, shaved trunk and custom rear bumper to allow for a quad-tip exhaust system. Thank to the cars AccuAir suspension set up the 19" BBS LM three-piece wheels tuck nicely behind messaged fender flares. Inside a tasteful leather and suede upgrade was applied to the seats and headliner brining this entry-level luxury hatch into a proper state of lush surroundings and stanced good looks.
Wuste 7 proved that the West Coast VAG enthusiasts have been busy in their garages building exceptional show cars. Having attended three consecutive weekends of the nations top euro shows to dates, we can't help but get excited for household shows like Waterfest and h2o. Our VW and Audi brothers and sisters are ready for a wild summer to hit the road to their favorite shows in their cars. And we certainly plan on being there side-by-side to take in all the crazy antics and biblical takeovers of small towns across America. See you at Waterfest!
