No question about it, Tokyo Auto Salon was every bit as exciting and massive as you have no less seen in Super Street, a dizzying mixture of eclecticism and unadulterated performance, with a dash of innovation and requisite high camera-to-girl ratios. So where do you go when you’re bursting from three days of glut, glamour and gloss? If you were looking for relief from the bloated seven-course meal that was TAS, then HKS had the well-portioned answer.
The 40 year-old marquee set things straight by ending January with their high-performance HKS Premium Day, inviting both tuners and enthusiasts alike to come out and play at Fuji Speedway. In the end, I came away a little sunburned and exhausted, but the eyegasms (eargasms/nosegasms?) were priceless. Here’s just a taste of the journey, which included 86/BRZ-specific track time, dyno challenges, Super Laps with cars wrenched by some of the most prolific tuners in the world, a customer-oriented Hyper Challenge filled with ridiculously-tuned customer cars, demo rides, sunshine and beautiful weather, and just about everything except the race queens and their nutty, ruthless devotees elbowing their way through the masses for a better glimpse of flesh.
