While Tokyo Auto Salon might feature the best cars around Japan we were excited and interested to see what the street scene entailed. After only around two weeks of planning we partnered with Hardcore Tokyo and All That Low Japan to host the Tokyo Fresh Car Meet held in Decks Tokyo Beach in the Odaiba area.
Even though the Super Street team showed up rather early, there were already a handful of locals parked and socializing. Coming from California where car laws are harsh, it was mind blowing to see a numerous amounts of Nissan Skylines and Silvias in the flesh.
Additionally it was very refreshing to the see current trends the people in Japan are doing. After all, this place is the Mecca of car tuning. Zee from All That Low Japan says, "The people that showed up that night came from different parts of Japan including Yokohama, Saitama, Kawasaki, Gunman, Chiba, Kanto, Yokosuka, and Yokota where most of the Americans came from."
One of the cars that stood out was the replica orange Toyota Supra from the original Fast and the Furious movie. Before you laugh at the dated style, apparently this guy used to design for Bomex as well as drag for HKS. He'll probably spank you in any car he drives. We met a lot of new friends and saw plenty of amazing car builds such as this blue Honda NSX, Hoonigan Japan's Daisuke Yokoyama's Nissan Skyline R33, and Car Wonder's trio of a Nissan Sivia S13, S14 and S15.
At the end of the day the car meet close to 300 people who attended. There was a point where we broke the garage ticket dispenser. Not bad for one of our first car meets of the year.
