Super Street staffers held the first ever Fresh Tokyo car meet at the Tokyo Decks parking structure while in Japan for the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year. With Formula D Japan just around the corner, it only seemed right to host another Fresh Tokyo car meet with the guys from Hardcore Japan. Funny story though - as word got around, a snitch reported the event to the local authorities and unfortunately we had to relocate two weeks prior the car meet. It became so serious that Hardcore Japan director Jun Takahashi was arrested and questioned about the gathering. Jun explained it's just a car meet and proceeded to find another venue.
Luckily with permission, Jun locked down a familiar venue, the UDX parking garage in otaku heaven in the Akihabara district. Although it's summer time in Japan, it's also rainy season, which made for a humid evening, made more uncomfortable by the event being two floors underground.
As expected, the meet was much bigger this time around, including everything from exotics like McLarens and Lamborghinis to your good, old-fashioned Toyota Truenos. Almost every single car that was featured in the Super Street JDM issue came to the car meet, including the two Marga Hills NSXs as well as the sensational three-rotor Mazda RX-7.
Unfortunately the car meet did eventually cause a great amount of traffic, so much the police had to get involved. It's definitely going to be remembered as one of the coolest events this year, and we're sure it won't be the last. I mean, what do you expect when Super Street comes to town? Still energized after the meet, a few drivers took us foreigners for an attack on the wangan - a fitting end to a perfect Tokyo night.
