It might be a little overwhelming when you first step into AutoCon. According to event series' president, Justin Fong, over 400 cars were packed into the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. It's not like any car can just pay a registration fee to enter, either; each went through a screening process before getting the okay to display. While there was a wide spectrum of tuner cars exhibiting, this piece is all about Toyotas that made our day – and that includes examples from its fancy-pants brother Lexus and rebel child of the family Scion. In no specific order, these are our favorite Toyotas from AutoCon LA ‘16.
DANIEL KRUTHANOOCH'S LEXUS GS430
The alleged Internet breaker is back at it. This is Yogi's next phase (see what I did there?) for his car with a set of Super Star Gemut wheels. He also parted ways with the GT wing for a duckbill style. Simply stunning.
NOEL BARNUM'S SCION FR-S
We know what you're thinking and the answer is yes, we've featured most of the cars on this list. Regardless, they are still stunning to see. Noel's car remains one of the hottest Scions out there. He's also changed up his look a bit by means of Rotiform OZT wheels.
JIMMY LEE'S LEXUS LS460
This one's a true panty-dropper. Jimmy's Lexus sports a full Aimgain VIP GT body kit from Japan and gets low via Air Runner air suspension kit. The interior has custom leather diamond double-stitched panels and Junction Produce accessories.
BRIAN CANALES' TOYOTA SUPRA MARK III
The Mark III Supra is extremely underrated and Brian's is one of the coolest we've seen. It's everything you need—fender flares, excellent wheels, and an immaculately built 2JZ under the hood.
PETER VONG'S TOYOTA CELICA
This is another car we've featured; in fact, it was the cover car of our Toyota issue! If you haven't read it yet, a very potent Honda F22C motor lies underneath the hood of the car. Another noteworthy part of the build is the Jenvey ITBs that were given a neo chrome finish.
JANET FUJIMOTO'S TOYOTA CROWN
Janet is a die-hard car enthusiast, but as a Toyota employee she naturally gravitates to dope Toyota chassis. It's amazing what she's done from the time she acquired the car till now. Her husband loves muscle cars and she had a thing for the imports, so the couple built this 2JZ-GE powered Crown.
JOEL TAN'S TOYOTA SPRINTER TRUENO
We've got a soft spot for old-school Toyotas. No fancy gadgetry here – Joel retained the 2TG motor and has various TRD parts throughout the car. He swapped out his grill and taillights for '73 versions. So gangsta.
JJ CHEN'S SCION FR-S
Besides his Blitz Bunny FR-S, what makes JJ cool is his Pink Ribbon Racing organization. The charity race team works with UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center to raise awareness about breast cancer.
JUSTIN PAGTALUNAN'S SCION tC
Justin's Scion tC is one of three that has an authentic Rocket Bunny widebody kit. You'll find one on professional Formula D driver Fredric Aasbo's competition car and another one on Scion Canada's show car.
MIGEL LEO ARMAS' SCION FR-S
When you see Migel's FR-S, you can tell he's got good taste. We don't know anybody else running Todoroki fenders in California. His Rocket Bunny lip is wrapped in carbon fiber, but not the vinyl wrap you're thinking of. Actual carbon fiber was molded onto the lip. How awesome are those SSR Formula Mesh wheels, too?
ENRIQUE MUNOZ TOYOTA SUPRA
Enrique's Supra is one of the most badass Mark IVs to come out of SoCal. Not only does it have the coolest body kit you can get for the Supra, but it also has a 2JZ-GTE built by legendary builders Eric and Marc Kozuleh. Goals.
