We hate to admit it, but the SuperiLL car meet and pop-up store felt like a scene out of Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. To bring everyone up to speed, SuperiLL is an apparel collaboration with lifestyle brand Illest that we've been planning for several months now. A week prior to SEMA, we began teasing the new collab on our social media channels. Last week we relaunched superstreetgarage.com by taking preorders for all of the new SuperiLL gear, which included tees, hats, and hoodies. The climax for our SuperiLL collab was last Saturday's pop-up store and car meet held at The Source OC—a brand new shopping center that will open in '17. None of the shops within the mall are currently open; however, the freshly paved, six-level parking garage is finished and made for the perfect location for our meet.
Let's just say within the first hour, we had already filled the garage beyond capacity and had traffic backed up all the way to the nearby freeway off-ramps about a half block away! From floor to floor, SoCal's finest cars were parking lot pimpin'. To the surprise of many, we were even blessed with many new builds fresh from the SEMA Show as well as former magazine feature cars. Some bigger builds included Big Mike's Honda Prelude, Jimmy Uria's slammed Mercedes, Noel Barnum's FR-S, Yogi Kruthanooch's Lexus, and Robert Chew's NSX. If people didn't know any better, they would have thought it was a car show, but this was a completely free event for anybody and everybody to come and check out.
By the end of the night, we sensed people have been waiting for an event like this for a long time. Something that would bring together the craziest car builds of today, while also welcoming any enthusiast no matter what age, what car they drove, or how modified their car was. From 5 to 9pm, we had virtually shut down the city of Buena Park, and our car meet will be something to remember for years to come. We say it resembled Fast & Furious not because we had street racing or underground drifting, but because the whole community came together to celebrate what we all love and in a familiar parking garage setting that almost looked like the scene out of a movie.
If you don't believe us, stay tuned for our video recap and also go check out the 2,000-plus posts using hashtag #superill on Instagram or Facebook. According to the cool kids, our meet was "lit!" And if you missed out, you'll just have to stay tuned for our next superstreetgarage.com apparel drop and pop-up shop to see what we're talking about. Our best advice is to remember to get there early or you might have to park a few blocks away, which several hundred people did!
