If you've been part of the show scene for a decade or more, you'd probably know these days are an embarrassment of riches in terms of showcase opportunities. AutoCon, Tuner Evo, Wekfest, and so many others replace the HINs and NOPIs of a generation ago, expanding the known universe for many—and not simply exposing attendees to other sport compacts, or other Japanese marques. These days the walls that once stood between old and new, between different parts of the world, and different styles of modification—those barriers have fallen, allowing contrasting executions to exist side by side at some of the largest gatherings.
AutoCon Los Angeles was that, a mixed bag of super clean, meticulously obsessed-over vehicles from all walks of enthusiast. We showed you as much in our posts on the overall show, the Euros at ACLA , and we even pulled out one K20 engine-swapped EF Civic hatchback that, if you weren't paying attention, you probably missed.
Our final walk around gallery from lensman TJ Watkinson includes many usual suspects, and many not-so-usual ones, too. We spotted an often-overlooked Alfa Romeo 4C in the mix, and the Ford Escort RS1600 from Fast & Furious 6 was also posted up. The twin-turbo, 5.9-liter Cummins diesel-powered "Old Smokey F1" vintage pickup truck—the one that can do a burnout like no other (just ask the Hoonigans)—made a bold statement on the show floor, as did the $700k Koenigsegg CCX hypercar on display. The rare metal extended to wheels, too; discontinued lines were coming out of the woodwork. Enjoy our final extended look into all the beautiful machines at AutoCon LA 2018.
