With the 2015 Formula D opener just days away, the unofficial season kickoff went down at Tech Day, March 28, at the Irvine, Calif., home of Super Street and european car, where this year instead of inspecting competition vehicles the series instead chose to use the event as a debut stage. Five racers from FD's Pro championship broke cover, while one Pro 2 car close to our hearts also took center stage.
The main attraction was 2012 series champ Daigo Saito's new-for-2015 Achilles Radial Nissan GT-R, housed in the building's garage as the team from Daley Visual vinyl wrapped the R35 for all to see throughout the course of the day. The supercar was air freighted to California to make the event and looks to be running a Bensopra kit in competition this year.
Outside, other teams unveiled new looks for their competition weapons. Ken Gushi's Greddy Scion FR-S will be rocking a livery with a lot more white, while S14 240SX for Dave Briggs and Jeff Jones both had refreshed looks, Jones' car in particular flossing conspicuous branding from new team partner DNA Motoring. Attendees also got to take a first gander at Charles Ng's Maxxis Infiniti G37 Coupe (now with less Speedhunters) and, from Pro 2, Dan Burkett's RAD Industries Toyota Mark IV Supra. Burkett, Briggs and Jones were all on hand to mingle with their public, too.
After the debuts of Tech Day, and those that have already surfaced online, all we can say is the 2015 Formula D season can't begin soon enough. Peep the gallery to get a taste of what's to come.
