New England Dustoff - Event

Kicking off 2011 in style on the East Coast.

With the East Coast suffering a particularly hard winter through 2010/11, it must have seemed as if the new show season would never arrive. In fact, we're sure Tom Whitaker and his Ocean State Dubs crew must have wondered whether their mid-April date was going to happen.

Even as the organizers rolled out of bed at 5am to prepare the venue, they were greeted by some of New England’s worst – a monsoon was the best description for it!

Expectations for the show were dwindling but at 7:30am the sun appeared. Tom described it “As if God himself made a divine intervention and decided this was the year Dustoff would be rain-free.”

As it got closer to gate time, the cars started lining up at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA. This is easily one of our favorite show venues because the banked oval speedway track creates the perfect amphitheater setting for Dustoff, with cars lining both sides of the track, allowing spectators to wander at their leisure.

Vendors from as far as NYC had arrived, including Euromedian, Swift Motorsports, Bag Riders and Banchwerks. Once the gates opened, they greeted the nonstop flow of some of the best cars the East Coast had to offer. Every generation and model was represented. Cars that were only rumors all winter were now a reality.

Now in its seventh year, the growth of this show has meant it was getting tight inside the track. But the hangout vibe was important to its success. So for 2011, Dustoff had taken over the entire track. But the crew was concerned the new layout might destroy what had taken years to accomplish.

A walk around the venue dispelled any fears, since the extra space worked out better than anybody had imagined. With attendance of more than 500 show cars from up to 150 club cars and with hundreds more in the parking lot, it was clear this was going to be a great success.

As with most shows, you can pre-register to enter, or simply pay at the gate and park with your clubmates. Interestingly, Grim Reapers were awarded Best Club for the second year running, suggesting some of the other car clubs need to raise their game a little!

We hope everybody will continue to support this excellent event that allows VW/Audi owners in the North-East to thaw-out, dust-off their cars and greet the year with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
