There are few constants in the worldwide automotive community, as tastes tend to change almost daily. Regardless of what part of the world you currently reside in, trends come and go — oftentimes in the blink of an eye what was hot in the past has cooled off considerably, and the "now" is leaning in a completely different direction. But one constant that can be counted on regardless of what the calendar says is enthusiasts' love affair with RX-7 and Skyline chassis.
These '90s heroes — still a coveted commodity in the aftermarket realm — have been modded every conceivable way over the past few decades. From high powered, competition-crushing beasts to prized street cars, and even high-caliber show car builds, they've never missed a step in making an impact. As styles and trends progress (or regress, depending on your outlook), the aftermarket continues to embrace both vehicles, offering new parts and advancing technology, and a result the builds just keep coming.
During the Bangkok International Auto Salon, a few groups met outside the event and brought with them some remarkable cars. One of those groups was comprised solely of FD chassis RX-7s planted in the parking lot, while the other, situated within the venue's loading docks, consisted of a group of GT-Rs. Photog-at-large, Chad Burdette, was already covering the event for us, which you can see here, and when he wandered outside he started snapping pics like a madman.
Not unlike most gatherings in Thailand, some serious rainfall crashed the party and photo duties were cut short. Nevertheless, Chad delivered, and here are some of the best from both the FD and GT-R gatherings.
When you think of an incredibly aggressive, well built, downright menacing RX-7, think of this lil' guy.
We saw this Otto Shop GT-R when Chad ran across a random Skyline gathering earlier this year and we're not positive but we think it might be carrying an even bigger turbo now! *Dogs and small children please keep clear*
Champ Masterpiece brought out his, well, masterpiece. His wild FD, complete with a rather pricey R Magic aero kit, was featured with SS recently and you can read all about it here.
If you're not into wild aero, a massive turbo sticking out of the hood, or gargantuan wheel and tire combos, then this ultra-clean example might just be your dream car.
Even in Thailand the Rocket Bunny sensation has swept the land. This green and orange duo, sitting on Work and Enkei wheels, respectively, demanded plenty of attention.
When there's too many Skyline GT-Rs on your block, you go out and grab a limited edition R33 Nismo 400RR model and separate yourself. That was easy.
When you leave an incredible event like the Bangkok Auto Salon only to stumble upon a parking area reserved for all of this, you take off the lens cap and get to snappin'.
