22nd annual meeting of the rotary faithful gets some SEMA FD3S RX-7 spillover in Rob Dahm's 4-rotor AWD monster and Jonny Grunwald's updated TCP Magic widebody

No sooner had the SEMA Show ended in nearby Las Vegas, Nev., the annual SevenStock rotary enthusiast car show, meet, and track day fired up its brand of Wankel-worshipping event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. The 22nd convening of SevenStock came amid a flurry of car gigs in the region that included the aforementioned tradeshow, The Chronicles Meet Year 11, and AutoFashion's 13th annual VIP Fest. Needless to say, it was a whole lot of hustling, but thankfully we had guys like shooter Paul Martinez - who turned in this photo set from SevenStock - holding it down for Super Street when the staff was stretched a little thin.

From SEMA, it seemed like many of the Mazda rotaries at the show managed to swing through this year's SevenStock, including Jonny Grunwald's updated TCP Magic FD3S RX-7 feature car. The most obvious change is the blue the FD is now wrapped in, but the TCP Magic widebody also saw some enhancements, including one additional dive plane on each front corner and fender venting at all four corners. The Lucky7Racing Pandem FC3S was also at SevenStock, another build Jonny was heavily involved in.

We talked about this car in our Off the Beaten Path article from SEMA but YouTube star Rob Dahm's 4-rotor AWD FD3S RX-7 absolutely requires multiple viewings just to make sense of it all. In between front and rear chromoly tube structures is a whole lot of craziness that includes billet housings for that 1,400hp 26B knockoff and a Holinger sequential-adapted Nissan R33 Skyline transfer case that sends power via custom carbon shafts to a front BMW E36 Wavetrac differential and a rear Winters 10-inch diff. There's also a custom cantilevered suspension front and rear, custom widebody, and so much more - you have to see this thing to believe it.

It would not be a SevenStock without classic rotary-powered race cars, and this year again Mazda North America was willing to help out by loaning a few from their basement collection that we spotlighted back in 2017. Among them was the no. 62 1991 RX-7 GTO, which was based off the FC3S and was powered by the same four-rotor engine found in the 767B Group C prototype. In '91 this car dominated its class and earned manufacturer's and driver's IMSA championships. Other race cars on site included several club racers taking advantage of the event's track day offerings.

We always feel we're among friends at SevenStock, and that means running into industry partners in the midways like Falken Tire, the only tire sponsor of this year's Wankel engine commemoration; at their rig, they had installed a pristine collection of FD3S that appeared to be with Final Forma USA. Many of thefamiliar brands that serve this community were also on hand, like MazdaTrix, Racing Beat, DNA Garage, and others, and even thoug this event is no longer held at a Mazda facility like it used to be in the early days, Mazda North American Operations still has a booth and an official presence at SevenStock.

Of course we also encounter cars we've featured in the past at local gigs like SevenStock, like Jonathan Oregon's 1993 RX-7 Touring...
