Boutique clothiers Simple! Los Angeles are probably the most enigmatically straightforward enterprise you'll ever encounter. Straightforward in that a trip to their website (to which SEO is seemingly of no concern) shows nothing other than their entire inventory of five single-color, screen-printed T-shirts, but enigmatic in that their ability to organize the enthusiast community for events, such as its JDM Swap Meet, hints that there's a lot more to the brand than their, um ... "simple" appearance.
Completely overtaking the dusty, industrial parking complex of K1 Speed off the I-405 and I-110 interchange in Gardena, Calif., we found this third iteration of the JDM Swap Meet less of a place to find scarce JDM bits (maybe we just got there too late) and more of an impressively big and relaxed gathering of SoCal tuning culture. Top-flight GT-Rs, EVOs, and assorted VIP-styled models could be found scattered among some of the cleanest old-school rides, realest daily-driven whips, full-crew turnouts, and even some of LA's most infamous street-racing machines. We caught up with old friends. Julio "DJ Habitat" Rivera dropped beats, jokes and egos with his ridiculous "challenge" giveaways. Everyone had a great time. As for the parts, they were there, too-including a full booth of Simple! swag. Turns out they offer a whole lot more than those five tees.
