The story of Supras in Vegas is one we can all relate and aspire to. What started out as a small get-together of 20 friends has grown into a gathering of more than 200 Supras at its peak. Now celebrating its ninth anniversary, Supras in Vegas is the weekend getaway for Supra enthusiasts that features an organized cruise, dyno day, barbecue, show 'n shine and more. And since I picked up a new A90 as a personal project car last August, I couldn't wait to be part of the family!
One of my first duties as a new Supra owner was getting myself registered for the event. I reached out to founder and organizer Miguel Jimenez, eager and excited to take part in this year's festivities. Little did I know that he'd reveal the event had been slightly scaled back and would no longer be held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which used to play host to the car show and drag race competition. To my surprise, there wasn't even enough entrants this year to warrant any racing, not to mention a venue for the show 'n shine wasn't set in stone yet. This saddened me and ultimately compelled me to take action. I took out my little black book, made some calls, and a few days later, the dots were connected. We had secured a new kickass venue which would be the perfect home for the show, as well as give everyone a chance to drive some really fast cars on the track. This venue would be none other than Speed Vegas.
With over 150 Supras registered from 16 different States, the pits and skidpad of Speed Vegas were jampacked with good vibes and boosted inline-sixes. As an added bonus, Toyota USA jumped on board last minute to give a few lucky attendees ridealongs in the new A90 around Speed Vegas' 1.5-mile road course. Other highlights included a meet-and-greet with Steph Papadakis and YouTube personality TJ Hunt. We also teamed up with Eneos to give out a few special awards at the show which you'll read more about in a future article.
This year's Supras in Vegas turned out be a successful and memorable one. Huge thanks to Speed Vegas as well as Supras in Vegas' many devout sponsors like Driftmotion. It also felt good for Super Street to be a part of an event with such an awesome community of Supra owners from all across the country. How are they going to top it for next year's tenth anniversary? It's going to be tough, but you can bet we'll be there to help plan the party and celebrate!
