After an early Saturday start at HRE Wheels for the Targa Trophy German Car Festival, we made a beeline north some 65 miles to Global Motorsports Group – a.k.a. GMG Racing – in Santa Ana, Calif., to catch the final hour or so of the shop’s annual open house. It’s been a minute since we’ve had a chance to cruise the event, which has gotten bigger in the interim, both in terms of the size of the actual facility as well as the size of the crowd the open house attracts.
GMG boasts 30,000 square feet of space where they work on motorsports machines that principally run in the Pirelli World Challenge, among other series, but the true draw of the event are the insane exotics and hypercars that the shop works on. Numerous Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, and of course Porsche were spread throughout the garage, and there was even a super rare Koenigsegg Agera R up on the alignment rack. R8 and 991 911 were stationed on the race car side of the facility, in various stages of prep for the season that’s just about to get underway.
Outside dozens of cars lined the street leading to GMG, and in the parking lot booths from BBS, HRE, Brembo, Sparco, GIAC, Vorsteiner, and many others, in addition to a number of food trucks, made up vendor row. Even arriving as late as we did, there was still a healthy crowd on site.
