Solid & Joker Integra Type R – Tokyo Auto Salon 2017

You don’t know the name yet, but you will

Jan 12, 2017

So after just a few minutes of walking into setup day at Tokyo Auto Salon ’17, the first car that really pops out to me isn’t a GT-R, new NSX, or another FD RX-7, but rather this Honda Integra Type R. For those who aren’t regulars to the annual Tokyo Auto Salon, Hondas haven’t held a huge presence over the last decade. The reality is the automaker hasn’t had as big of an appeal to tuners and enthusiasts today, as it once did during the glory days of DC5s, EKs, and of course prior to that the golden era of the ‘80s and ‘90s chassis generations. So when I stumbled across this DC2 ITR, I could already feel just how nostalgic and well received this car is going to be during the show.

First things first, this Type R actually belongs to the owner of aero giant Varis. Yes, the man behind the company that designs high-end, popular and notably functional widebody kits for GT-Rs, BRZs and more, held on to the same Integra he owned in his early days. To bring it back to life, he’s developed a new line of aero called Solid & Joker, which is debuting this weekend with two different kits – one for the DC2, and the other for the 86/BRZ.

The first things you’ll notice are the over-fenders, which are quite bulbous and boxy, similar to the Pandem styling in my opinion. The carbon-fiber used on the hood, front splitter, and rear wing are the same top notch quality that you’d expect from Varis. Other details include Spirit suspension, Endless brakes, and 16x9-inch TE37V wheels all-around.

The Solid & Joker ITR is just one of many surprises Tokyo Auto Salon has in store for ’17. And don’t worry, we’ll have plenty more to share with you!
