Toyota 86 of Tokyo Auto Salon 2017

The latest trends for Toyota’s popular coupe

Jan 16, 2017

If there’s anything we’ve learned about attending the Tokyo Auto Salon, it’s that the 86 movement is without a doubt still very strong. Every corner of the show, every single hall you walked into contained some sort of company that’s already developed new parts for both the Zenki and Kouki versions. Seeing Japan’s way of putting a seemingly obsessive amount of love and attention to detail into this chassis, it’s only a matter of time until the style transcends across the globe.

Aimgain toyota 86 front Photo 2/26   |   Aimgain has always had a way of making even the most aggressive of aero treatments appear sculpted purposefully rather than a designer’s afterthought. Its red 86 features Work Wheels’ latest Meister L1 3P rollers.

With the Kouki model available to the public, you’ll find top-notch front lips from popular JDM brands such as JUN, C-West, and Varis. If you’re feeling bad and boujee and want to replace those OEM bumpers or go the widebody route, Pandem, Blitz, and Ings has the stuff you’ll need. Performance junkies might be interested in Monster Sport’s FA20 sports engine package that is said to include a 5,000km warranty. TRD continues to tease us with its newest development for the 14R-60 – new carbon parts like an extended lip that gives a nod to the Griffon Concept. Don't bother asking TRD if you can get it because chances are it’s only available for the 100 14R-60 owners.

Japan, as it turns out, remains the major source of inspiration not only for 86 owners but for car enthusiasts around the world, regardless of what brand or chassis they’re loyal to.

Jun yellow toyota 86 Photo 4/26   |   Rather mellow in appearance when compared to the sea of widebody 86s in attendance, the Jun Auto booth car featured a low-profile carbon lip kit while the booth was chock full of go-fast parts on display.
Blitz widebody toyota 86 front Photo 5/26   |   Recognized and well respected, Blitz has been involved in the tuning world for decades. Its 86 showed off their sinister Aero Speed R Concept kit with carbon splitter.
Trd 86 carbon concept Photo 6/26   |   TRD threw its hat in the 86 ring by proudly showing their 14-60 Carbon Concept.
White varis 86 front Photo 7/26   |   Varis’ widebody is anything but subtle. Sharp, wide and in your face, this display car was fitted with an overtly aggressive diffuser and massive rear wing to step things up a little further.
