Consumer Electronics Show (CES): Day One

Las Vegas Convention Center Las Vegas, NV January 7, 2008

The first day of the largest trade show in the United States did not fail to disappoint as some of the biggest players in the electronics field showcased their latest and greatest products and services in Sin City.

The vastness of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was a bit overwhelming, but the segment focusing on aftermarket vehicle accessories and products was somewhat manageable. CES 2008 has seen a big push towards accessorizing the in-car experience. Companies such as Kenwood, Pioneer and Eclipse are debuting one-piece sound systems that achieve the same results as conventional seven- or eight-piece units.

In addition to the already crowded car-audio segment, 2008 looks like a banner year for portable and in-car GPS devices – and even combinations of the two. Never before have so many companies offered GPS units. In a few more years, we expect them to be must-have items for all vehicles.

With so many new products at this year’s CES show, it is difficult to spotlight just a few. Check back for Day Two of our coverage to see highlights of several other new devices that just have to be mentioned.
