The Autoclub Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California, played host to the Import Face-Off drag race and show car series. With events taking place almost weekly in other parts of the country, California enthusiasts were excited to get back on the track, and an early 2013 event was the perfect setting.
If you’ve heard that Honda drag racing is dead on the West Coast, then you probably didn’t make the trek to Bakersfield as the massive line to get in was only overshadowed by a packed grandstand and most competitors requesting a two-day event in the future—a sure sign of a successful turnout.
One of the most anticipated events of the day was the unveiling of the Speedfactory/Sipes Brothers Street All Motor Civic (HT feature car) sporting a new powerplant and a whole new look. The Avid Racing vinyl-clad hatchback only sat still for a moment, as Joel Sipes clicked off a new All Motor record with a blistering 9.81 at 137 mph! A huge accomplishment for the car’s first time on the track with the new setup. Later in the day, the All Motor Pro class win went to Jerry Guzman of Jerry Built, who smashed a low 10-second pass and took home top honors.
You can’t talk All Motor without mentioning Drag Cartel’s tube frame monster (HT cover car). Not only did the car run 8s all day, it managed a new personal record of 8.93 at 150 mph, sending Lookofsky and crew home with an ear-to-ear grin and everyone asking how much faster this beast can possibly go.
Loyal Honda Tuning readers will recognize the name Navid Pajoufar (HT feature car) of K-Powered in Palm Springs. Navid battled his way through the day, ran a personal best of 8.57 at 174.92 mph, and took home a huge win in the Forced Induction Pro class. With that pass he also established himself as the fastest FWD K-series Honda.
With a smash hit like IFO Bakersfield, we expect the Import Face-Off staff will be back for another West Coast visit before too long.
