Round five of the Formula Drift 2013 season is officially in the books. For a second year in a row the professional drifting series hosted a sold out show for the "Throwdown" round at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. Last year's champion Daigo Saito with the Lexus SC430 shocked the crowd when he was eliminated in the Top 32 rounds. This ultimately created an opening for the championship.
Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis with his Nissan 240sx battled it out with Fredric Aasbo in the Scion Racing tC for the consolation round. Wheel and tire problems gave the edge to Fredric Aasbo giving him third place position. The final battle was left between Michael Essa piloting the GSR Autosport BMW M3 and Chris Forsberg in the NOS Nissan 370Z.
In the end Chris Forsberg took home the victory and the points lead with his Nissan 370Z powered by a 800 horsepower Nissan Motorsports 5.6L VK56DE. "Hats off to my crew for giving me a perfect running car this weekend as they were hustling really hard since Thursday's practice to get the car dialed in for today," said Chris Forsberg. This round has caused a shift in the Formula D Pro Championship standings as Essa stands at second place and Daigo gets bumped to third.
However there are still two rounds left in the season, the Texas Motor Speedway and Irwindale Speedway in California. The points separating Chris Forsberg and the other drivers are less than 35. Who do you think will take the 2013 Formula Drift championship?
