In preparation of the 2013 Los Angeles XGames, Ford racing and Recaro seats invited us out to California Speedway to take part in shake down testing for their XGames teams. There were a few Global Rally Cross teams in attendance as well as a few GRC lites teams on hand. Tanner Foust, Brian Deegan, and Patrik Sandell were three of the most recognizable team's there and even though Brian Deegan didn't actually make the shake down session, his car and team were on hand representing Ford Racing and Recaro to the fullest.
The day started off with a few team shake down laps to get accustomed to the course layout. After the shakedown laps were finished, we had a quick lunch break where we went over some of the performance numbers of the Global Rally Cross Fiesta's. When I heard that these bad boys could go 0-60 in less than 2 seconds I knew I had to get a ride along. Just as my luck would have it, right after lunch we got to enjoy a few ride along laps in the fully prepped Global Rally Cross Fiesta's. Check out the video below:
As you can see from the video, although these cars may look violent on the outside, the Recaro seats keep the drivers and passengers firmly planted. With almost zero lateral movement inside the vehicle, I could feel the full force of multiple G's pushing against my body. I've had my share of ride alongs before: from professional Drift cars, to ALMS cars, I've been in just about everything but nothing compares feeling of G's in these Global Rally Cross cars. I give these guys lots of respect for what they do, and I must say, I want one. After the shakedown session and ride along laps were finished, I snapped some more pics and then drove home with a permagrin sealed onto my face. Major thanks goes out to Recaro and Ford Racing for bringing us along.
