No Fly Zone 5 Recap – Photo Gallery Airstrip racing event brings out wild list of tuned supercars Airstrip top speed events have blown up in popularity in 2014. Organizations such as Omega Motorsport are setting the tone for how open events like this should be run. With the most extreme of modified supercars frequently breaking 200mph in a roll-race half-mile format like No Fly Zone 5, safety is paramount and excitement is high.

Tony Lopez, Omega Motorsport founder, utilizes a recently resurfaced rural airstrip called Minter Field in Shafter, CA for the annual No Fly Zone get-together. Entries pay $200 for a full day of side-by-side runs – there are no run groups. In this laid-back format a 1200hp Bugatti Veyron can line up against an 850hp Toyota Supra or Mustang over and over again. In other words, No Fly Zone is an superbly grassroots and awesome experience.

“We had 110 cars racing. A Bugatti Veyron hit 180mph effortlessly, a couple GTR’s reached over 200mph and the SPE Godzilla, on mild boost, reached 210mph,” said Tony Lopez, Omega Motorsport head, when speaking on the November 15th No Fly Zone 5.

SP Engineering also brought out three other Nissan GT-R builds that made about 1,000hp each thanks to its R35 SP 1000R package. SP techs were also on-site to help customers get an optimal run before days end.

Taking part in a No Fly Zone event requires a waiver, tech inspection form and adherence to easy to follow driver and gear rules. No Fly Zone 5 brought out a laundry list of heavy hitting performers. Names like modified Ferrari 458, BMW M3, Jeep SRT, Lamborghini Aventador, parachute-equipped Nissan GT-R, Mercedes-Benz SLS and Chevy Corvette were seen in the run line all-day. The pictures tell the full story of this year’s No Fly Zone 5 though, enjoy!
