Drift DressUp 2017

Drifters attack Twin Circuit Suzuka

No one hosts better soukoukais, or track days, than the guys in Japan. Even the most basic of drift events will make any JDM fanatic go crazy. Take for example the annual Drift DressUp held at Suzuka Twin Circuit. The fourth annual soukoukai is put on by Takashi Mine from drift team "The BReaST" (don't ask us, we don't know) and can be classified as one of those unforgettable grassroots drifting events hardcore fans can only dream about. Additionally, they had a car show section called "On Fleek," which rounded out a few cars we spotted at Wekfest Japan. There were almost no restrictions to the type of cars allowed on track, except for the one stipulation that said the cars had to be "good looking." We just chock that up to mean no ugly "missile" cars.

On the track you'll find everything from Shakotan style, Itsasha style, pro cars, and everything in between. Yosuke Kotake caught our attention with something we've never seen before - an itasha style four-door Skyline with an S13 front and rear conversion. At the end of the day there was a final team battle that consisted of a huge eight-car team MCR vs. the six-car team of The BreaSt. Although they call it a battle, it's still friendly competition and nothing but good vibes.

Many of the teams that went to the Final Bout Special Stage also participated at Drift Dressup. We love team Ketsuketsu Dohmei's style!

Hands down one of the coolest cars we've seen is this Rocket Bunny-style Nissan Skyline R34 four-door built by Kazuyuki Kubo.

It's rare to see a Nissan Fairlady Z32 drift, but Masatoshi Amisaki does it with style.

You've seen Hiroto Hostani's crazy purple 180SX at Tokyo Auto Salon. This time he switched things up and brought out his S13 coupe for the event.

There were Hondas on deck at Tokyo Auto Salon, but Osaka Auto Messe has a way of highlighting some of the older chassis—the classic chassis—the ones you and I love seeing built.
