Those who have been fortunate to witness les 24 Heures du Mans invariably come away with a set of impressions, imprinted on memory and on film. But few photographers of the grueling endurance race have enjoyed the same intimate perspective as legendary Porsche engineer Norbert Singer. Le Mans has been like a second home to Singer every June since 1971, and he's rarely without his camera. His participation in 16 overall victories for Porsche has been well documented, but rarely has Singer's photographic eye been publicly revealed. We asked him to choose some images from his personal library that he considers pertinent to his personal viewpoint of this year's race. His visual descriptions clearly show that his heart is with those nameless crew who toil on pit row around the clock—and not for the glory, but for the passion.
