Last April Motovicity hosted its second-annual Never Lift event at Coalinga Municipal Airport in Central California. Never Lift isn't your typical drag race—it's a half-mile competition in which drivers start from a standing stop and go flat-out for 2,640 feet, aiming for the highest possible trap speed. More than 200 competitors came out this year and nearly $40,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the fastest cars among six different classes.

Though it's being built more for time-attack duties, we knew we wouldn't put down anything crazy. Our best was 118 mph. Needless to say, it was still fun!

Upon arriving at the track (which is in actuality a functional airport), we took a stroll through the paddock and admired the diversity of cars on hand, from Supras and GT-Rs to Corvettes and Lambos. Competitors are allowed to make unlimited passes throughout the day, which makes for a fun and exciting environment. There's also plenty of friendly banter and rivalry going on as drivers coordinate who they want to run head-to-head with.

Never Lift was a huge success, but for us, the best part was witnessing so many enthusiasts enjoy a weekend of racing. The Never Lift environment was extremely positive and offered that unique aspect that all car enthusiasts look for in race events.
