After days of rain in the north east, Mother Nature cooperated with bright sunny skies and it led to some excellent racing at Mid-Ohio.

Chip Herr in the STaSIS Enginneering/QVALE Audi A4 took the hole shot from his second grid position, utilizing his all-wheel drive advantage off the standing start, and never looked back leading flag to flag for his first-ever Touring Car win. Number 1 qualifier and second place finisher Pierre Kleinubing in the RealTime Racing Acura TSX never challenged Herr but held off furious challenges from Jeff Altenburg, who ended up third, and his teammate Randy Pobst in the Mazdaspeed/Tri-Point Motorsports Mazda 6’s.

Kleinubing and Pobst sit one two respectively in the total points race with 90 and 89, while Herr with his win now sits in third with 75 points ahead of Peter Cunningham with 74.

The race will be broadcast on SPEED Channel on May 27 at 8pm (EDT). Check out a future issue of Modified Mag for more on the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Series. For additional series information visit www.world-challenge.com
