Site: Buttonwillow Raceway Park, CA
Every year in November, we make a pilgrimage of sorts to Buttonwillow, CA — if you’ve never heard of the place, don’t feel bad. Buttonwillow is little more than a truck stop along the interstate in the middle of not much at all. However, there’s a racetrack in Buttonwillow, and this very track plays home to North America’s biggest and most important time attack event of the year: Super Lap Battle Finals.
Even though the total number of cars that showed up this year was down from years past, the quality was (as always) top notch. Five new records were set on this mild November afternoon, most notably a new overall track record, courtesy of Tyler McQuarrie and FX Motorsports Development. In the now famous Unlimited RWD Acura NSX, Tyler managed to pull off a 1:40.981, which just inched past the previous standing record from Sierra Sierra Enterprises (set in 2010). Here are some of the other highlights.
