Even during the dead of summer, nothing can keep a good drift event from going down, and Las Vegas proved once again with its sold-out attendance that Formula D is the premier place to see America's best drifters in action. With only two events following the fifth round, the race for points is in full effect, but extremely tight as Vaughn Gittin, Dai Yoshihara and Tanner Foust are all but within a few points of each other. Vegas was a prime win zone for the V8-powered cars as the finals all came down to a battle of the V8s.
At the Final 4, Tony Brakohiapa made the finals for the first time with his Cooper Tire/BSP Tuskeegee Airmen Mustang, but had the challenge of going up against the series points leader, Vaughn Gittin in the Monster Energy/Falken Tire Ford Mustang. Vaughn was able to take the win and Third place, thus maintaining his lead in the points standings. The final standoff for the night was between the comeback kid, Dai Yoshihara, against teammate, Tyler McQuarrie, pitting the Discount Tire/Falken Tire S13 against the Falken Tire 350Z. Mechanical issues kept Dai from adding another First place win to his score card, allowing Tyler to take his first ever victory, but was enough to keep him in Second place overall, just shy of Vaughn. The wins from Tyler, Dai and Vaughn is a second Falken sweep in drifting competition and it seems as if Falken is on-par to claim major podium finishes in the championship points by the season's end..
