If there was ever a perfect way to end my career as associate editor at Super Street, the South Leg of Tour 2005 was it. Those three nights and two days summed up all the great times I've had in the past three years as the alpha gopher at the magazine you love to hate. Accompanied by Elliott "Grimace" Moran and Rob "Sexual Chocolate" Gonzales, the South Leg was just absolute mayhem at its best. From late nights at South Beach in Miami to hanging out VIP-style with Racing Zone in Orlando to driving up 700 miles with the greatest Super Street fans in the nation, the South Leg experience almost brought a tear to my eye-but I think that was just my eyes telling me to take out my contacts. Either way, to fully understand how my last event went for Super Street I'll break down each day like an episode of 24.
Day 1 - 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
For the first time in a long time, Miami wasn't hit by hurricane during the Tour. The Miami weather proved perfect, giving way for the hot Latina women to wear equally hot clothes. I met up with Grimace and Rob at the world-famous Wheel World, where they threw a rather large party before the start of the Super Street Tour. NOS Energy Drink brought their black-colored school bus, giving away NOS Energy Drinks for anyone who felt like having a jolt. The sexy NOS girls, Brittanny and Elle, were also there to look pretty, flaunting their nice sets of NOS cans.
After the party, we met up with Nick Chin and Howard AKA Porky, and they took us out to Mango's on South Beach. I've never been to a club where every girl present was hot. We're talking Latina-South-Beach-I-Want-to-Lick-Their-Cinnamon-Rings hot. After the many rounds of grape juice, we went back to our hotels and slept. I stayed up for another hour thinking about Britanny and Elle, and, well, you know how that goes.
Day 2 - 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m
Though our call time was at 8 in the morning, Rob and I slept away as Grimace served as a wake-up call, phoning our cellies every 10 minutes to get the F up. We met up again at Wheel World to officially start the Tour to Atlanta. Regular Tour groupies Brian and Diane Benson were there, along with Thomas Cheung, sexy Amy with her two Pontiac Firebird flunkies, and a whole mess of other people who I don't remember.
We arrived in Orlando at approximately 4 p.m. The car show/Tour party was at Racing Zone at around 7 p.m., giving us time to take naps and showers. However, instead of doing the smart thing and actually napping and bathing, Rob, Grimace, and I had more grape juice at the hotel, which led to an extremely emotional debate on Malcolm X and MLK. Yeah, don't ask but just to let you know Grimace has no idea about what he's talking about. Good times!
The show at Racing Zone was extremely packed. They filled up the entire parking lot with the hottest cars in Florida. It felt like I was back in SoCal because the cars were that amazing. There were numerous rides that were shot for the cover of Import Tuner, along with a widebody NSX and the sweetest Honda Odyssey since RJ DeVera's mom raced one down the quarter mile.
Following the show, Racing Zone owner Anthony Chow rented out Club Matrix especially for the Tour. The Tour-goers were treated with a VIP room and free drinks, while I was treated to the sexiest Asian women in Orlando. Though I still went back to my hotel alone and finished off my session with my imaginary Brittany and Elle.
