Keeping It Real
Certainly not a stranger to the road courses that Formula D visits, Real Time Racing's Pierre Kleinubing is now breaking his traditional method of gripping the turns and drifting through them. His S2000 debuted at Road Atlanta and will also make an appearance at Chicago. We caught up with Pierre to ask him his thoughts on a sport that otherwise goes against everything he normally stands for:
Super Street: What are your thoughts as you enter your first drifting event?
Pierre Kleinubing: Just trying to learn as much as I can since we just finished the car a short time ago. I haven't had much practice but I want to have fun. Hopefully it'll be running good by Chicago.
SS: Why did you get into drifting?
PK: It looks fun, something you can't do every day when you're racing. I get to go out and beat up on the equipment as hard as I can while smoking some tires.
SS: Clearly it goes against everything you've been trained to do.
PK: Yes, now I'm not trying to save the car. It's really just a lot of fun because at the end, I'm smiling.
That Gushi Stuff
Ken Gushi rolled out a new Mustang GT drift car from the Toyo trailer, a burgundy follow-up to the widely successful white 'Stang. This time it's an actual '06 production chassis built by Ford Racing that uses Toyo Proxes T1R tires and a Whipple supercharger to get the job done.
