Rhode Island Loves Us?
We would like to take this small section to thank the states of Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, as well as the authorities in these states. The setting for the car show after the G-Tour was the parking lot of the Rhode Island State Capitol building. I noticed this as we pulled in, and I could never imagine that the state of California would allow us to hold a car show with imports, lots of people, and music in one of its parking lots. Kevin of Boston Acoustics also thought it would be a good idea to inform the respected police of the areas we would be traveling through. Along the trip we noticed a few police cruisers watching us, but we were not hassled by them at all. When we arrived at the State Capitol, a police escort directed us into the parking area so there would be no confusion and no interference from the Saturday traffic that encompasses the area. The police cruiser at the event was even kind enough to let us take a few pics of him helping us out. California, take note, this is how we earn each other's respect. Thanks again to the states we traveled through and their respected authority figures.-JK
The Gravity Games
Some of your may have been living under a rock the past few years, and may still have no idea what the Gravity Games are. This organized "extreme-sports Olympics" is now in its second year, and prospering with attendance at this summer's event eclipsing the 300,000 mark. This surge in attendance over the inaugural year's 200,000 attendees is due, in no small part, to the presence of Super Street. Essentially, we did for this event precisely what we had done for NOPI's event, and lent it the "oh, that's sooo cool" factor that brought in the additional herds of spectators. Or at least that's what we like to tell ourselves around the office.
Delusions of grandeur aside, the Gravity Games showcase the talents of unique individuals who have dedicated themselves to excelling in sports that they couldn't letter in back in high school. Among the unique disciplines covered within the Gravity Games are various skateboard categories, street luge, and motocross. This year's games witnessed motocross competitor Carey Hart execute a back flip on his 250cc motocross bike. Yes, he lived. Meanwhile, skateboarder Andy McDonald set a world record by completing a 540-degree spin 18 times. Attendees were treated to music in line with the tastes of the extreme-sports lifestyle, such as the complete works of Marshall Mathers on volume level 10.
Otherwise, there were ample live bands on hand to modify the attitudes and moods of spectators enraptured with the scene. All told, the event was a resounding success, and Super Street was pretty tickeld to be a part of it.
