With a dribble drive to the basket, the International Auto Salon brought it home with a slam dunk. Massive numbers of manufacturers and custom rides were all on hand for the big event. BFGoodrich and JUN's booth had a steady flow of traffic due to their killer displays and posh lounging area. GReddy, Honda, and Apex were also there, displaying their latest and greatest products.
And if that wasn't enough, a massive car show and live entertainment were right outside the doors. Pulses began racing and cameras started flashing when 10 sexy ladies came out to strut their stuff in the NOPI/PIAA-sponsored bikini contest.
We sent Jonathan to Tattoine (Palmdale, CA) to cover the first drag event of the season. Poor weather didn't keep the rev limiters from bouncing and nitrous injectors from spraying, but it did effect tire traction and a few peoples' hairdos. On a more serious note, Abel Ibarra had an unfortunate accident on the track. While tackling the 1,320, the driveshaft broke, causing him to hit the wall. We all wish Abel a speedy recovery.
This year, NIRA will be getting even more attention now that racing action will be caught by ESPN2 and Speedvision cameras. So, make sure you sell those old Garbage Pail Kids cards and get your tickets now.
Cap'n Rich and Moe Slinky were spotted on the front line of the World Challenge, Daniel has been caught sleeping at his desk-living off canned peaches and day old bread, transcribing up-to-date racing action via the "Morris" code. Even the players have been busy. With ten-second and lower timeslips becoming as common as Suzie sightings, all the racers are doubling their efforts for the upcoming season. So, until next time, over and out.
