This year the IAS car competition is being coordinated by Vision Entertainment, the same people who bring you Hot Import Nights and Import Revolution. Here are the procedures and show categories.
Step By Step1.PreregistrationYou must register your vehicle online at www.ias2k2.com. It is $75 to register your vehicle. Company-submitted vehicles are limited to one (1) vehicle per company.
2.Move-InMove-in will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Signs will direct you to the staging area. While in line you will be classified. Once you hand in your classification form to the attendant, he or she will enter your information into the database and give you all the necessary items for vehicle competition and judging. These items will be used by the judges when they mark their score sheets, as well as to identify your vehicle in the show. Your classification sheet must be clearly displayed on the driver-side window at all times during move-in and show hours.
3. Regulationsa. The vehicle must be clean and free of body damage. All affixed signs, logos, and so on must be in good taste. Project cars and prototypes must be in a completed state.
b. It is preferred that you provide a descriptive sign giving special facts about the vehicle or acknowledging the contributors. Maximum sign size is 28 inches by 44 inches. No other marketing, advertising, or promotion will be permitted.
c. No retail sales will be permitted in the vehicle display areas.
d. Sales personnel may not staff the vehicle display.
e. Use of stanchions will not be permitted.
f. If the vehicle requires an electrical supply, the sponsoring exhibitor or vehicle owner will be responsible for the cost and ordering of electricity through the Long Beach Convention Center. If an exhibitor orders electrical service in advance of vehicle placement, it's the responsibility of the exhibitor to then notify the convention center on-site of the vehicle location once it is placed.
4. JudgingThe judges will score your car based on the category of competition on your classification sheet. After your vehicle has been judged, your scoring sheet will be entered into a computerized tally system. This will automatically indicate who the winners are by the numbers, showing no favoritism. You don't have to be by your car for it to be judged. However, the judges will need to access areas of your vehicle that you would like to have judged.
5. AwardsAwards and trophies will be handed out to owners of vehicles on Sunday morning (April 21). Trophies are to be left by the vehicle for the remainder of the day for photo opportunities and media coverage. There will not be an awards ceremony on the main stage. Good luck!
Competition CategoriesThere are four vehicle classifications for import or domestic cars: Wild, Mild, Performance, and Minivans/Wagons/SUVs. Best Overall and three Awards of Excellence will be awarded for each of the classifications, and up to 17 other awards will be presented.
Wild Category (Complete Cars/Full Customs)
This includes cars with major modifications to the interior as well as the exterior or those that have been manufactured into new, unique automobiles using automobiles sold in the market as the base models. Cars that have not been accepted as Tuned Cars, Dressed-Up Cars, or Minivans/Wagons/SUVs will be included in this category for the sake of convenience.
Mild Category (Dressed-Up Cars/Aftermarket Bolt-On Parts)
This includes automobiles available in the market as the base models (irrespective of whether domestic or imported) with uniquely dressed-up interiors and/or exteriors using bolt-on-type body kits, wheels, or seats. Roofs and doors must not be changed from their basic configurations. Each of the parts must be capable of being mounted by bolts without any modification onto cars of the same model available in the market.
Performance Category (Tuned Cars)
