Sun, rain, snow, and a couple of natural disasters can't keep us from hitting events for you. We're the few, the proud, the strong. Wait. Those are the Marines. We're just a bunch of dudes that like cars just as much as you do. You can't ask for more than Night Shift in San Diego and Hot Import Nights Chicago all in one phat story in an even phatter issue. Well, you can, but you won't get it. We had to split up the crew to see who went to cover which event. It was tough, but a RoShamBo match determined that Nads and Rikdaddy would stay in the west while JDM Wonger and Seoul Man headed to the freezing east to chow down on some deep-dish pizzas and ribs.
Nads And Rikdaddy Can't Stand The RainIt's a cold gloomy Saturday morning and we're heading down to Qualcomm Field for Vision's Night Shift. We're in the SRT-4 with "street" tires that we're not supposed to be piloting in the wet. But we're not worried one bit. It can't rain, it won't rain-this is So Killa Kali, after all. There's a chilly breeze blowing when we hit the venue but that wasn't gonna stop us. Though the thought did cross our minds more than once to slip over the border to TJ and pick up some street tacos, food poisoning, and about 14 different STDs. Yeah, maybe not. Our plan was simple: start off at the Falken rig and then spread out and hit everything humanly possible before the first raindrop fell from the dark gray clouds above. That means all the Super Street X cars touring with the Valvoline Synpower rig, GM's Time Attack Cobalt, and whatever else we could fight the crowd to get to. Teams like Kallusive represented with a grip of cars and there were a few four-door G35s that Rikdaddy could initiate into his posse. That's in addition to his Accord posse that he started with Otis and Seoul Man Carter. We also couldn't forget about Formula D's grueling qualifying session. The competition was so intense and the drivers wanted their licenses so badly that they pushed their skills to the limits and left a handful of cars injured, including Calvin Wan's FD3S.
It finally went dark and the venue lit up like a slot machine that had just hit the jackpot. About 20minutes later the giant droplets of rain started pummeling us as if the clouds were hacking giant loogies. We snapped as many pics as we could, then ran for cover to protect our camera gear. We tried to wait it out, but our hair gel just wasn't having it. Plus we had our Super Street X party to attend to down at the Ole' Madrid. You can find more coverage and info on that in this month's News section.
