Over on the drag strip, the action was just as intense with plenty of heads up matches between cars ranging from your every day Civic with a B-Series swap, to pro drag teams like the DVS Drag Cartel. The biggest victory of the day was Matt Scranton's, who after completing a 6.91 e.t. at 204.26mph, became the leading career winner of the NHRA's entire Sport Compact Racing history with his 15th class win.

Jason Hunt set a new national speed record of 196.44mph with the Matco Tools' Chevy Cobalt during a by-run in the finals. This was after Ed Bergenholtz tapped out following the semi-finals and Paul Efantis took an easy win because Jorge Lazcano redlighted during the Modified finals. Stephanie Eggum also broke down during the Hot Rod finals, but the winner, Ron Lummus, rocked the Garrett Turbo Sunfire with an 8.41 e.t. at 173.43mph. The unbearable heat took its toll on some of the drivers, including Jeremy Lookofsky, who had trouble during qualifying due to heat exhaustion, but rallied back against Leslie Durst- Armendariz as he was able to complete a 10.030 e.t., a mere two-tenths of second faster than Leslie's tC.

Besides all of the drag and drift, the NHRA also hosted a car show, dance and DJ battle, a late night bikini contest, and the latest stop for Scion VIPs, a free gathering for local Scion owners thrown by Scion as a way of saying thanks for living the Scion lifestyle. It might have been hella hot, but not all of the heat in the world could stop nearly 12,000 people from being a part of this motorsports extravaganza.
