Car shows are fun. And so are drift, sport bike and freestyle MX demos. Ride-and-drives are also fun. More fun still are the hottie and naughty import models and go-go dancers. Pour them all into one venue and you have perhaps the most fun thing of all-well, aside from Vaseline in your cowboy boots, but that's a whole other kind of fun.
The NightShift events come ready to play with all of these elements, and the '07 season opener didn't disappoint. At Pomona the crowd was 15,000 deep and 350 cars were on display. Representing crews such as TWM, Hybrid, Hokori, Ar-Kan rolled deep, but for our money Auto Concept created the strongest presence on this date with no less than three of our former cover stars flying the AC banner.
If speed is more of your style you could get up close and personal with the Dunlop drift demo. There's nothing like eating hot chunks of spent rubber (tire bits-acrid and carcinogenic!).
Maybe you're into kickstands (hey, there are stranger fetishes). If so, the KaneOne sport bike stunt show and Boost Mobile freestyle MX shows will do it for you. Or are you a really big man with something to prove (its okay, overcompensation is the next best thing to flopping your Johnson down on the table). In that case you could strap your ride onto the rollers of Valvoline's hyper high tech mobile dyno. Or better yet tear it up Autocross-style at the Mazda Ride-n-Drive Challenge.
On the main stage Chingy and Fabolous proclaimed how blingy and fabulous they really are. These guys may be money but we'd rather see the Glo-Go dancers shake their moneymakers. Is it possible to have too much fun? NightShift is putting that question to the test but without all the hassle of cleaning Vaseline out of your boots.
Another Ben Creation: Auto Concept's Ben Abutin unleashed this FD at NightShift. The undercarriage paint is cleaner than the hoods of most of our project cars. Too bad someone stole the wheels. | | So this is one direction to go with a Supra. But at least this one runs, which is more than can be said of Cater's MKIV. |
We're not sure but we think Hybrid's IS 300 and IS 350 may be just a little bit better than Jonny's dirty Lexus. | | Valvoline's mobile dyno is de-lish! |
Our boy Rado'srevised tC TimeAttacker included over-fenders with 295 tires all around. Yes, 295s. | Remember our January '05 cover car. Well this is what the new motor mods look like. Way to go, Pete, you could have done all this before we shot your car! | The Babe Blvd dudes are just like us except their girls don't ask for credit cards. |
Universal Technical Institute was at NightShift with a no-holds-barred spark plug changing contest. Nads entered but was DQ'ed for not knowing what a spark plug was. | | |
