For nearly the entire existence of the import scene, Promotion Distributing has been there. Starting off as a small retail outlet, over 18 years later it is now one of the largest parts distributors in the country. Founded by Eugene Inose and Jeff Louie, a couple of old school So Cal car guys themselves, they're all about supporting our scene, especially since it involves fixing cars up, a passion we can all dig. Lately, the Promotion crew felt there was "a void in the marketplace," according to VP of Marketing Mike Morita. "Car shows are great at portraying the lifestyle that encompasses our industry, but over the past few years have strayed away from the central point. To us, that meant we had to create a show where the nucleus of what it used to be like comes back to the forefront of manufacturers and high quality cars."
To remedy this situation, the Spo-Com show was created, in hopes of connecting consumers with actual manufacturer representatives so that you can find information that may otherwise be inaccessible. For consumers who might not be able to attend industry-only conventions, like SEMA, you can now get up into any industry insider's face and ask about anything from drag to drift to time attack, and naturally, parts. Not only that, but Spo-Com is a high end production that also incorporates a car show element and entertainment in the form of DJ battles, dance competitions and a lingerie fashion show; in this sense, it really is a "something for everyone" kind of event with everything there at your finger tips. Manufacturers came out in full force, turning this into a really strong showing of support, with plenty of cameos by long-time industry players.
This first of many Spo-Com events to come generated 280 show cars for competition with nearly 5,000 consumers and 1,200 trade accounts in attendance and will be held annually at the Long Beach Convention Center.
