Hot dang! Formula D nears the end of the season with a brand new track in the Lone Star State for Round 6. Faster than Seattle and as flat as Florida, the new course features a technical 3-turn layout demanding drivers to sprint off the starting grid and plow into the first turn at speeds just over 100mph. As many struggled to maintain their composure in the high speed tandem battles, the top 16 ran late into the night as Michael Essa, Matt Field, Chris Forsberg and Patrick Mordaunt turned up the action and solidified their positions in the final four.
With overall points leader Chris Forsberg beating out Mordaunt to secure 3rd place in the consolation round, the final battle was left up to Essa and Field where some of the best tandem executions of the evening were displayed. Eventually, Essa slipped the nail in the coffin for his second consecutive podium finish as Field landed in 2nd for the first podium finish of his career. Though Essa’s team is now sitting in first for overall points leader, the top 6 drivers are only separated by a mere 90 points as they enter the final fight in Round 7. At this point, the championship is literally up for grabs. Who’s got what it takes?
The Texas Motor Speedway also brought out some of the Lone Star State’s finest for the Fatlace-curated Slammed Society display—and slammed they were. With a variety of imports and a handful of oddballs, the show proved to be a good time for all in attendance as well as a nice distraction from the sweltering heat.
