At the start of every year auto journalists do their best to work Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) into the budget. For good reason too as this is the show over all shows that highlights what’s trending in JDM tuning culture. It is here where you find the latest and greatest aftermarket part releases – many of which unfortunately do not make it to America - for our favorite platforms and shop builds that inspire across the world.
For first timers it is everything you grow up Google image searching right there in front of you. Words like R32-35, Hachi-Roku, Liberty Walk, Silvia, Rocket Bunny, Fairlady Z, BenSopra, 86/BRZ, D1 and sugoi (Japanese for awesome) are heard repeatedly through the crowded Makuhari Messe Convention Center halls over the three-day event.
This year there was no short supply of 86/BRZ product and wide body kits popularized by Kei Miura of TRA Kyoto. Wheel suppliers came out in full force too with many new offerings from Work, Volk, Rays and BBS to name a few. GT class racecars down to 600cc Kei cars grabbed crowds as well. There was something for every tuner. Take time to scroll through the many photos documenting every corner of the event.
