- 2014 Formula Drift season kicks off this weekend in Long Beach, CA
It’s an exciting time of the year for motorsports especially in California. The cold weather is fading, random earthquakes are keeping us on our toes, and the professional drifting series known as Formula D commences in this week. As customary, while Formula Drift kicks off the season on the streets of Long Beach, CA many of the big manufacturers unveil its new teams, drivers, and fresh slide rides – in this case the boosted V8 Falken Tire Subaru BRZ, driven by our friend Dai Yoshihara, made us drop our jaws both static and in motion.
We first headed down to the Illest OC showroom this past weekend for the unveiling of Dai’s new Formula D 1,000+ horsepower Subaru BRZ sporting green-hued livery – see video for full car breakdown. Then it was off to a large parking lot for shake down testing and tire smoke.
Tire manufacturer Falken invited its Formula D fans to design a livery for Yoshihara’s LS7 powered Rocket Bunny BRZ on the new Xbox Forza Motorsports 5 game. Participants simply shared a screenshot of their design on the Falken Facebook page and the brand chose a winner. The result is what you see here. Dai hard fans (see what I did there) surrounded the car as the LS7 shook the ground.
The Formula D BRZ livery still bore the unique Falken Tire design its been using since the American Le Mans Series in 2008. The teal front end saturates into a bold blue keeping the Falken Tire scallop shape on the side that eventually fades into black at the rear end. Also seen are "DY" wheels and bumper cannards compliments of Yoshihara's design.
From first look at Illest OC to the BRZ roasting through its first set of tires, we can’t wait to see this team slide sideways into Round 1 Long Beach this opening Formula D weekend. We hope to see you out there!
