With this column, Cyber Street has officially done it all. That's right, if it's an element of existence, we've been there and done that. At least twice. Do you know how we were able to experience literally everything? Well, it's all a matter of space and time. If you can lick one, the other's a snap. And we're everywhere!
So anyhow, now that we've done everything and been everywhere, we're wondering if this entire "being" thing has been worthwhile. In order to investigate this existential question (and it's a mighty one), we figured the Internet would be the right place to start. Hence, one last column about Web sites before we wink out into our well-deserved nothingness.
The RallySport Networkwww.rallysport.netWhile we're bored with everything, among the least boring things is rallying. While dicing with Colin McRae or Tommi Makinen in factory-backed WRC cars is plenty of fun (we, of course, have done that), the truth is that mere mortals will likely have to start their rallying careers at a much lower level. And in the United States, the first step up beyond video games is SCCA Club and Pro Rallying.
The RallySport Network is an excellent resource for anyone interested in seeing and getting involved with rallying. There are complete schedules, links to dozens of events, classified ads, chat rooms-all the stuff you need to answer your questions about how to get into rallying. By the way, the first step is having a car.
One of the best elements of the site is the RallySport Photography area, which features snapshots of various events. By the way, driving in a rally in winter can be cold. And in summer it can be hot. Trust us, we know.
Scott Putnam's Subenetwww.subaru.net"My Name is Scott W Putnam, and welcome to my way of life! I live, eat, and breathe Subaru." Which, of course, means his parents should be very worried. However, for people who want to find out something about Subarus, Mr. Putnam's Subenet is invaluable. "In this home page, you will find everything you ever wanted to know about Subarus (well, maybe not everything yet...) and then some. I hope you find this informative and useful.
"I work at Morrie's Subaru in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I am Fleet Sales Manager out here, so after you've read all the great stuff about Subaru's and have decided that you can't face another day without one, let me know! I can ship cars anywhere in the U.S., and perhaps save you some of your hard-earned cash." Oh, we get it, he wants to sell us a car, too!
While the Putnam site is strong on the latest information about new Subarus, there's not enough information on performance improvements and racing. Come on, how about some genuflection toward the WRX, huh? But, still, there aren't a lot of Subaru resources on the Web, and this one is a welcome addition.
The '82/'92 4A-GE Corolla Web Pagemembers.xoom.com/fx16gts/index.htmHaving done it all, we're shocked at how many people overlook the front-wheel-drive Corolla FX-16 and Corolla GT-S as bases for some high-performance silliness. This site, set up by Andy Karkos of Providence, Rhode Island, is-like, duh-dedicated to those forgotten cars.
Mr. Karkos has a lot of photos on his site, but the information available is pretty scant. However, he does have an extensive links page, which makes his site a good jumping-off point for investigating the world of the FX-16 and the 4A-G family of Toyota DOHC 16-valve engines, including the supercharged and turbocharged variations.
With that said, it's a wonder all the stuff we've done. Everything is a lot, isn't it? Yes. Hmm. Now, we're going to go revel in our own impending nonexistence.
