NASA Hyperfest - Hyper Speed

I don't pride myself as a great driver. I mean, I can get around the surly streets of L.A. without incident-avoiding speeding tickets and major accidents-but I lived in New York most of my life, so these things have become second nature. I love the feeling of speed, but there is only so much you can do in a '94 Pathfinder. Other people on the Super Street staff feel otherwise, as they hit the highways and streets with reckless abandon, dipping in and out of traffic, scaring the living daylights out of little old ladies and old farts in '94 Pathfinders. These type-A highway hellions are the reason why the National Autosports Association (NASA) has put together the Hyperfest. The NASA Hyperfest events are designed to let the racer in everyone come out and play in the sun, allowing the average John to take his own street car out onto a real roadrace track. Afterward, you can take time to enjoy a full car show, drift contest, model search, and a Joey Chitwood-style stuntdriving exhibition. Great weather greeted the more than 3,500 people who came in off the streets and onto the track at the Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia for the festivities. If you choose not to take chances with your only ride home, or if you came in that proverbial Pathfinder, you could still sit back and watch the pros go at it while living vicariously through them.
This first Hyperfest went off without a hitch. The hot dogs and bikinis were plentiful. There will be more of these around the country, so check out www.hyper-fest.com for more info. Who knows? Maybe next time I'll get the old 4x4 out on the course and try not to flip it over.
