Oddly enough, this was the first Englishtown event in the history of Super Street that a member of our own staff has not made a personal appearance at the first big race of the year. Perhaps it had something to do with an enormous entertainment expense or those $300 parking tickets that Ricky and Jonny picked up during last year's excursion, but after that point, Nads made it a commandment for those two to never travel in pairs again. So we sent in the Wolf, our very own Daren "DP" Proctor. And if you know what we mean by DP, then you'll see that you're just as clever as we are to give Daren a silly nickname made up only from the initials of his first and last name. Yes, the Lord hath blessed us with such strong intellect or breasts that are bigger than our own girlfriends'.

Pro RWD
This particular race saw many drivers entering the record books, which made for an exciting weekend, not just because it was Jen Thomson's big wedding day bonanza. George Ioannou took the biggest win by racing to his fourth career NHRA victory by completing the first 6.7-second (6.786 seconds) e.t. in import drag racing history during the opening round of eliminations with his Street Glow Toyota Solara. Later that weekend, he nailed a time of 6.810 seconds at 204.60 mph to defeat Adam Saruwatari. Not only did Ioannou win the event, but he also set the Pro RWD category elapsed time (6.786 seconds) and speed (205.47 mph) record. Also in the first round of eliminations, Matt Scranton clocked a 6.745-second pass with the Turbonetics Celica, giving him the quickest pass in NHRA sport compact history.

Pro FWD
In the Pro RWD final, Nelson Hoyos finally nabbed a win as he took the Bothwell Motorsports Chevrolet Cavalier to the victory over John Brown, with a pass of 8.684 at 169.51 to score his first career NHRA sport compact victory. Brown, who's been out of the racing scene for the past couple of years, nonetheless returned strong with his '03 Civic and still managed to cap off an applause-worthy 9.088 at 164.35 mph.

Modified
Jimmy O'Connor also did well, as he was able to take the Venom Supra to his second career NHRA Modified victory when he eliminated Cesar Febus during the final round. Speaking of rounds, whatever happened to Short Round? You know, the Chinese boy from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Rumor has it that Ricky is actually Short Round, but the blue hair makes it really hard to tell.

Hot Rod
Nelson Hoyos' GM teammate, Marty Ladwig, also won his category, the Turbo Magazine Hot Rod class, by completing an 8.724 at 163.73 mph with the other Bothwell Sunfire race car, and defeated Jojo Callos in the process. The duo's victory also marks the first time in NHRA sport compact history that these two have reached the winner's circle at the same event.

All Motor
Jesus Padilla, who captured seven Honda Tuning All Motor victories during the 2002 NHRA season, earned his first win of '03 by driving his '85 Mazda RX-7 to the win with a pass of 10.624 at 123.02 mph to take an easy victory over Scott Mohler.
