The land of go-go music and Doin' the Butt got a taste of what it's like to experience some real booty shakin'. The NOPI Race Wars came to town and everyone was getting down in the aisles enjoying the Sunshine and warm weather of June in Maryland. We're surprised we even got clear pics of the event with Dancin' Darren behind the lens, but guess what? We did. And there is nothing you can do about it. You want to turn the page, but you are compelled to keep on reading this drivel until you get to the next paragraph where the race results and record-breaking runs are. It's OK, we're not mad. Pro Compact
The main story of the NOPI Tuner Vision Pro Compact class was madman Ara Arslanian, who decided it was no longer cool to just break the 200mph mark. Ara felt it was necessary to raise the bar again and set a new speed record with a blazing 203.4mph run in his Bullish Motorsports Solara. We bet your mom's Camry can't do that. Manny Cruz was in the house, still without his Cougar, but Abel Ibarra was kind enough to let Manny behind the wheel of the K&N R100 again. Manny drove the car to a stunning 8.3@160 mph to reach the semifinals, but the finals had Abel and Ara written all over it. Abel played a little hopscotch with the centerline and had to back off, giving Ara the win.
Pro Outlaw
Pretty boy Chris Rado didn't want Ara to be the only one to set a class record. Chris smoked the Pro Outlaw FWD speed record after three attempts and two days. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. There were only two competitors for the Pro Outlaw FWD title, and Chris Rado and Steven Thompson spent the whole weekend doing bye-runs. After Steven experienced engine trouble and got his car fixed in time for the finals, he managed to red-light against Chris, handing Rado the win. In Pro Outlaw RWD, the records were meant to be broken as well. Brent Rau became the first Pro Outlaw RWD in the sevens with a record-breaking 7.96@172.36. Brent also managed to snatch the speed record with a 173.9mph run. Carlos Montano wasn't just sitting around eating Cheetos, though. He piloted the Pepe Loco R100 to a runner-up position running solid 8s all weekend.
Pro 4 Cylinder
After qualifying first in Number One Pro 4 Cylinder and taking hometown girl Angela Proudfoot to the cleaners, Jojo Callos went and broke his car against Joe Demaree in the semifinals. Losing his Fourth gear gave Demaree and his SSC Civic the chance to go up against Second-Place qualifier Gary Gardella for an all-Civic final. Things looked good for Joe when he cut a really good light against Gary, but a breakage somewhere in the drivetrain of the SSC Civic, possibly the driveshaft, nearly sent Joe into the wall, letting Gary smooth his way into a First-Place win in his unmarked Civic, blazing through the traps with an 8.96@164.97.
Pro Stock
Erick Aguilar was the fastest all-motor competitor for a long time, but as times and technology change, so do people's standings. But this weekend, Erick proved that he wasn't going to let time pass by without getting his name in the books again. Erick piloted his Civic to become the first all-motor four-cylinder to drop into the single digits with a 9.99@131.8mph. Erick ran strong all weekend with the next closest competitor, Cloyse Holland, coming in Second with a very strong 10.57@126.14 against Erick's 10.02.
