Round 5 of the Formula DRIFT Championship always makes for an interesting event. For starters, Evergreen Speedway is a difficult track to drive, because of the long banked turn and intricate infield. Winning here isn’t easy, and the competition is fierce by this point in the season. The field of drivers is determined to move up in the rankings, and a season can be made or broken in a matter of moments. This year, Daigo Saito (a shoe in for Rookie of the Year) hoped to earn a place on the podium to gain more points towards an overall win. Unfortunately for him, it was not in the cards, nor was it for Justin Pawlak, another top contender for overall victory. Vaughn Gittin Jr. ended up on top, with crowd favorite Ryan Tuerck and professional stunt driver Rhys Millen managing 2nd and 3rd respectively. With two events remaining in the 2012 season, Saito and Pawlak are still breathing down Jr’s neck, with the top 3 drivers being separated by a mere 15 points. We can’t wait to see how the season unfolds!
